Dr Khalid Naeem, Chair
Khalid is a partner at Mount Pleasant Medical Centre in Batley as well as being the Chair of North Kirklees CCG. He became Chair in May 2020 and has been a member of the CCG’s governing body since it was first established in 2013.
Carol McKenna, Chief Officer
Carol is the shared Chief Officer for NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG and NHS North Kirklees CCG. She has worked in the NHS for more than 25 years, mainly within commissioning organisations in West Yorkshire. Before becoming a CCG Chief Officer, Carol held the post of Executive Director of Commissioning and Strategic Development at NHS Kirklees. She also worked as Director of Commissioning and Service Development at the former South and Central Huddersfield PCTs.
Ian Currell, Chief Finance Officer
Ian has worked in the NHS for over 20 years, the last eight years in director roles. He has experience of both provider and commissioner organisations and most recently held the post of Director of Finance for NHS England (Lancashire and Greater Manchester) where he supported the further devolution of decision making powers to Greater Manchester.
Penny Woodhead, Head of Quality and Patient Safety and Chief Nurse
Penny has worked in the NHS for over 20 years. Originally training as a general nurse, she specialised in oncology and palliative care before gaining experience in management and leadership across a range of sectors. In her current role as Head of Quality and Safety she is responsible for ensuring the standard of commissioned services, including safety, safeguarding, effectiveness, patient experience and equality. Penny also works for Greater Huddersfield and Calderdale CCGs.
Dr David Kelly, GP Member
David became a GP in 1990 after training at the University of Leeds. He works at Brookroyd Surgery in Heckmondwike and has a special interest in cardiology. David held the role of Chair of the governing body between 2013 – 2020.
Dr Nadeem Ghafoor, GP member
Nadeem has been a GP since 2003 and works at Healds Road Practice and Liversedge Health Centre. He is clinical lead for primary care.
Dr Yasar Mahmood, GP member
Yasar is a GP partner in Cleckheaton. His role on the board is clinical lead for urgent care.
Julie Pieske, Advanced Nurse Practitioner member
Julie has worked within the NHS for over 24 years and is currently an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in primary care.
Sarah Sowden, Advanced Nurse Practitioner member
Sarah qualified as a registered nurse in 1994 and has worked in hospital, community and practice nursing. She has a special interest in chronic disease management especially in diabetes care and primary prevention.
Dr Chunda Sri-Chandana, Secondary Care Consultant
Chunda is a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine at Harrogate District Hospital where he has worked since 2009.
Beth Hewitt, Shared Lay Member for Public and Patient Involvement
Beth has worked in both the public and private sector, specialising in community, public and business engagement. Most recently, Beth has worked as Senior Project Manager for a business consultancy and has developed and delivered business support programmes that have supported small and medium-sized businesses to become more innovative and digitally mature.
Hilary Thompson – Shared Lay Member for Finance and Remuneration
Hilary has worked in various roles in the private, public and community and voluntary sector. Hilary has previously held senior roles with Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees and Kirklees Council. She is now involved part time with Age UK at a regional level and holds several voluntary roles within Kirklees particularly championing the third sector.
Martin Wright – Shared Lay Member for Audit and Governance
Martin has worked for a number of NHS commissioning organisations across West Yorkshire during his 29 year career in the NHS.
He is a qualified accountant and was Chief Financial Officer for NHS Leeds North CCG prior to taking early retirement in March 2019. Martin is also the Conflict of Interest Guardian and Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for the organisation.
