Preferred bidder selected to provide a range of community-based healthcare services across Kirklees

Locala Community Partnerships has been selected as the preferred bidder to provide a range of community-based healthcare services across Kirklees.

The decision is a milestone for NHS North Kirklees and NHS Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and the first step towards delivering their vision of integrated, community-based services across Kirklees.

The award of the contract will support the development of better healthcare services within the community with an emphasis on care being closer to people’s homes or within their homes.  It will also ensure a focus on services that help patients’ recovery and promote independence.

The contract award follows a six-month competitive dialogue procurement process to select a lead provider to take responsibility for a wide range of community-based services from October this year.

As a lead provider, Locala Community Partnerships will be responsible for ensuring that community care is much better co-ordinated across Kirklees.  They will provide some of these services directly as well as using other organisations including the community and voluntary sector to provide care.

The lead provider will also need to work closely with local GPs, social services, ambulance services, as well as hospitals and other healthcare providers.

Both CCGs are strongly committed to delivering healthcare that is closer to people’s homes and more joined-up.  We know this is what local people want, and I am delighted that we are now in a position to begin the process of delivering our vision.

As a local GP and as a commissioner, I am looking forward to working with the lead provider and to seeing some real benefits for our patients.

Over the coming months the CCGs and Locala Community Partnerships will work with existing providers of community health services to ensure that patients experience a seamless change from one provider.

Locala Community Partnerships will take over responsibility for services from October 2015, with a phased implementation plan that will be delivered throughout the first year.
