NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is committed to continuously improving the healthcare available to all the people living across the district. The CCG commissions a number of community based services under the Any Qualified Provider (AQP) contract. Some of these contracts were due to expire on 31st March 2016 and we were looking at how these services would be provided in the future. These included:
- Specialist Contact Lens service
- Non-Obstetric Ultrasound (NOUS)
Specialist Contact Lens Service
NHS North Kirklees CCG currently commissions Pollards Opticians to provide a contact lens assessment, prescribing, fitting and aftercare service for patients requiring clinically necessary specialised contact lenses within North Kirklees. Patients are referred to the service by a Consultant Ophthalmologist. During 2014/15, 27 patients were referred to the service.
Non-Obstetric Ultrasound Service (NOUS)
NHS North Kirklees CCG commissions a local, direct access non-obstetric ultrasound service to aid early diagnostics and avoid the need for unnecessary referral to secondary care. Currently the service is delivered to patients in North Kirklees via Any Qualified Provider (AQP) by two providers: Yorkshire Health Solutions and Mediscan. Patients are referred to the service by their GP. During 2014/15, over 1,600 patients used the service.
Surveys were developed to gain the views of people that had used the services, their views were collated and were used to help develop how the services would be provided in the future.
