The CCG has awarded the contract for the new service to Curo Health Ltd, a federation of local GP practices. The service was developed following extensive engagement with local patients.
Appointments will be available between 6.30pm and 9.30pm each weekday and there will be additional slots available on Saturdays between 9am and 4pm and Sundays between 9am and 1pm. The service will be offering pre-bookable appointments which can be booked through the patient’s own GP practice or by calling NHS 111.
Having these additional appointments available will enable patients to visit a GP at a time that is convenient for them which fits better with their work and other commitments and will also reduce pressure on both general practice and hospital emergency departments.
Dr David Kelly, local GP and Chair or NHS North Kirklees CCG said:
“We all lead busy lives and this new service will benefit patients as it will improve access and ensure that people can get the right care at a time that suits them, especially for those with work or other day-time commitments.”
Dr Stuart Lawson, Chair of Curo Health Ltd said:
“The service will provide better access to care for patients when their practices are closed. Delivering the service across the whole of the North Kirklees district allows for a comprehensive, consistent, resilient and efficient service, allowing access at more convenient times for working people.
Patients will benefit from direct and easy access to clinicians who will have access to their clinical records, can assess their condition and advise them about the best course of action needed to assist with their health or medical problem. Curo is looking forward to providing this service for its patient population.”
The scheme starts in August when evening and weekend appointments will be available for any patient registered with a GP in North Kirklees. The appointments will take place in Dewsbury Health Centre.
